Chris has experience of a broad range of finance, insolvency and general commercial disputes. As well as litigation, Chris also has experience of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution, in particular mediation. Chris has worked on matters relating to a number of different jurisdictions, including the UK, Jersey, Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, US and Dubai. Chris also has experience of insurance disputes.
Representative Experience
- Advising trust structure in relation to restructuring issues and subsequently on dispute in relation to circa £300 million with Icelandic bank following its collapse.
- Defending a derivative claim relating to mineral exploitation licences in Greenland.
- Advising Middle Eastern distributor of luxury cars to the European market in relation to US$50 million claim for breach of a distribution agreement in Dubai and parallel proceedings in London seeking a mandatory injunction to continue to supply vehicles pending the outcome of an arbitration.
- Acting for a Brasilian telecommunications company in relation to its claim in excess of US$500 million against a Cayman Islands fund.
- Acting for a European based bank in relation to its investment in one of the two Bear Stearns Cayman based funds, formerly valued at around US$20 billion, which collapsed in the latter half of 2007.
- Acting for the principal beneficiary of a Jersey based trust worth approximately £20 million.
- Defending a US based finance brokerage against claims for breach of a shareholders’ agreement, rectification of a business sale agreement and unfair prejudice.
- Acting for a global European based bank in relation to an investigation by the US Regulators (Federal Reserve Bank of New York & the New York State Banking department).
- Acting for a bank (and its insurers) defending a negligence claim arising out of a rights issue.
- Advising a US based petroleum company on trades in futures, options, spot trades etc carried out on the London Petroleum Exchange and what authorisations were required.
- Defending breach of warranty claim following the sale of the entire issued share capital of a company providing IT services within the insurance industry.
Professional Background
Chris trained at Rowe & Maw (now Mayer Brown International) from 2000, qualifying as a solicitor in 2002. He worked at Mayer Brown until 2007 before joining SC Andrew LLP. Chris is a graduate of Warwick University and the College of Law. Chris is also admitted to practise as a solicitor of the Eastern Carribean Supreme Court, British Virgin Islands.
